Firm marks 40 years of supporting power infrastructure

APC, a brand of Schneider Electric, has celebrated four decades of continuous innovation in uninterruptible power supply technology, marking a significant milestone since its inception in 1984.

The company stated that UPS solutions are more relevant than ever, supporting digital transformation and ensuring operational continuity for businesses in Nigeria and globally.

In a statement on Wednesday, Vice President of Secure Power for Anglophone Africa at Schneider Electric, Ben Selier, reflected on the early days of APC, which began with lead-acid battery products.

He highlighted the evolution to the Back-UPS series, which has solidified APC’s foothold in the power protection market through its affordability and reliability.
Selier noted that “these advancements help Nigerian businesses address their energy demands, ensuring extra reliability, sustainability, and economic productivity.”
“The surge in AI adoption and data center expansion in Nigeria is driving increased demand for resilient IT infrastructure, with a projected 160% rise in data center power needs by 2030,” said Selier, citing Goldman Sachs.

“Schneider Electric’s UPS solutions, including APC’s energy-efficient models with long-lasting lithium-ion batteries, meet these demands while supporting sustainability goals and reducing waste. The growth of edge computing, anticipated to reach $232bn globally by 2024, underscores the critical need for power protection in local and hybrid data processing.”
With over 40 years of UPS innovation and a global network of 150,000 partners, Schneider Electric is committed to reliable, secure, and sustainable power continuity—essential for Nigeria’s expanding digital landscape.

The company said it also invests in eco-friendly technologies to address the frequency and duration of power outages, supporting organizations in adapting to new technologies on their digital journeys.

Schneider Electric leads digital transformation by integrating advanced process and energy technologies, connecting products, controls, software, and services.
